My holiday in Charm el Sheikh was brought on by hearing about Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who allegedly headed there. Well, if it’s good enough for him, I thought, I’m headed there too. As soon as travel was permitted, I knew I could find bargains galore and guess what? Luxury, I mean real luxury, was so steeply discounted that I felt like a queen.
Contrary to what my parents thought would be a holiday during a riot, my holiday to Charm el Sheikh was relaxed and peaceful. The Red Sea resort was almost empty and I never felt safer. Basically my parents just worried that it was an eight hour drive to Cairo if something happened but unless they grounded all planes, I was much better off being far from Cairo. It wasn’t my favorite city even before the rioting began.
This was the best holiday I ever had. Since I could only convince one friend to join me, we practically had the hotel to ourselves. The pool was open and we had a blast acting silly around the pool since there was hardly anyone else ever there. The other guests all came for the diving so they were never at the pool. I would highly recommend Charm to anyone who is tired of their usual holiday destination. We actually spent less for a five star hotel than we would have going to London for a week.
